Will of Nathaniel Wells, Ipswich, Essex, MA, 3 Jul 1789[1]
In the Name of God Amen, this third day of July one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine, I Nathaniel Wells of Ipswich in the County of Essex Gentleman, being in good health and perfect memory (blessed be God) therefore calling to mind my mortality and that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make this my last will and testament, and principally & first of all I give and recommend my immortal soul into the Hands of God who gave it, and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executor herein to be named; nothing doubting but that I shall receive the same again at the general Resurrection by the mighty Power of God; and also such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form...
...Item I give to my tow sons and five dafters and the legal heirs of one decd Daughter, viz, Simeon Wells, John Wells, Sarah Lord the wife of Mr. Nathl Lord, Elisabeth Smith wife of Capt Adam Smith, Lydia Wallis wife of Mr. Samuel Wallis, Hepsibah Patch the wife of Mr. Nehemiah Patch, Hannah Friend the wife of Mr. John Friend and to the children of my dafter Susanna decd late wife of Mr. Ephraim Smith I give equal to one of my dafters...
