Mary was born in 1689 in Sutton Coldfield in Warwickshire and was baptised there on 13 October of that year.[1] She was the first daughter of Joseph and Mary Wells. Mary’s father died in 1699 when she was just 10 years old and it is unknown whether her mother re-married or not, though it is quite likely given that her mother had another child to care for - her younger sister Elizabeth who was just 5 years old at the time.
At the age of 25 years Mary married 32 year old William Rawlins on 21 October 1714 at Curdworth in Warwickshire.[2][3] At the time of their marriage William was living about 11 miles away in Aldridge, located on the other side of Sutton Coldfield. William and Mary had 6 children together, all born and baptised in Sutton Coldfield.
