Obituary - Ruth Helen Wellwood Nagle Ruth Nagle passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 28, 2021 at Riverview Gardens in Chatham, Ontario in her 105th year. Ruth was born on the family horse farm on Concession 11, Raleigh Township, Kent County, Ontario, Canada on January 17th, 1917. She was the youngest of eight children, descended from Robert Wellwood, one of the earliest settlers of Raleigh Township who emigrated from Tullow, County Carlow, Ireland in 1830. Ruth graduated elementary school at South Buxton at age 11 and then attended high school at Merlin. She became a dental assistant, then a dental technician and then later in her career, a dental hygienist, working at Southwestern Regional Centre. As a mature student, Ruth graduated from University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Arts. After waiting out World War II, she married Edward Nagle at St Patrick’s Church in Merlin, Ontario on May 4, 1946. They had six children while living on Sunnyside Ave in Chatham. Later they built a house on Charing Cross Road. Ruth was a devoted member of St Ursula’s Parish and the Catholic Women’s League. For many years, Ruth taught bridge at St Ursula’s Church. Ruth was a strong supporter of Canadian Food for Children, making and donating more than 1000 baby quilts. Ruth is predeceased by her parents, James Wellwood (1871-1949) and Ada Gilhuly (1875-1945) and her seven siblings: Albert James Wellwood (1901-1988), Harold Francis Wellwood (1906-1989), Edwin Albert Wellwood (1904-1981), James Norman Wellwood (1910-1913), Grace Margaret Light (1908-1982), Ada Mary Dillon (1912-1992) and Aileen Louisa Wright (1915-1994). Ruth is also predeceased by her husband, Edward Winfield Nagle (1913-1975) and two children: John Edward Nagle (1948-2018) and Janet Elizabeth Cameron (1963-1989). Ruth is survived by four children, Margaret (Peggy) Nagle (Rob Weadick), Thomas Nagle (Lynn Neuert), Mary Nagle, Ann Nagle, and eleven grandchildren: Sarah Weadick Snider (Matt), Dr. Daniel Weadick, Nathan Nagle, Tyler Nagle, Benjamin Nagle, Charles Agro (Alice Tringham), Hilary Agro (Gonzalo Reyes Casanova), Christopher Moher, Patrick Moher, Alexander Moher and Aiden Moher as well as three great grandchildren, Evan Snider, Hailey Snider and Ella Reyes Agro. The Nagle family extends sincere appreciation to Eden Villa Retirement Home for their kind care for Ruth after she joined them at age 101 and to Riverside Gardens for their attentive care during her final year.
