George was born in 1898, the son of George Welsh and Marion Patterson. [1]
George enlisted in the AIF in WW1. He enlisted as a labourer from Ballarat South on 12th December 1915. He was single and 18 year old. He was posted to the 24th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 4219. Later he was transferred to the 58th Infantry Battalion. On 6th September, 1918 he died of wounds received at Peronne, and is buried in the Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, France. Tree No. 3432.[2]
