Biography

Grover Ignatius Welter was a child of Thomas S. Welter and Caroline C. Delaney. He had several siblings and was born about 1884, possibly in Newark, NJ. According to the 1900 census taken in Newark, NJ, the siblings included Thomas J. Welter ( b. NJ, 1874), W. Frederick Welter ( b. NJ, 1876), William N. Welter ( b. NJ, 1878), George V. Welter ( b. NJ, 1880) and Abram A. Welter ( b. NJ, 1888). Included in the household also was a maternal cousin, Mary C. Delaney,

Grover met Rose McCaffrey. They married in 1906 and had one known child, John G. Welter.

Grover Ignatius Welter completed a draft registration card for the "old man's draft" of 1942, so died after this date.

At the time of the 1942 draft Grover Welter's person of contact was a John Welter; he did have a son by this name. It is possible that his wife, Rose, died by then.

His date of death and place of burial is not known but it is likely he died and is buried in New Jersey.
