Note H2Daisy Rosa Wenman was born on August 20 1924 at 68 Devon Road, Barking, as the only child of Rosa and Stanley Wenman. She lived much of her life in her home town of Barking and was educated at Ripple and Westbury Schools. In August 1931 Daisy and her mum Rosa Wenman were very poorly in Upney Hospital, Barking, Essex with Diptheria and were fortunate to survive. During WWII Daisy worked as a matchmaker at Masters Match Factory in Abbey Road, Barking and, for leisure time, as a young woman, enjoyed dancing, especially jitterbugging. Daisy met her first husband, Sidney Pugh, then a soldier in the 53rd Welsh Regiment, by the boating lake in Barking Park. They were married on 3rd November 1945 in St. Margaret's Church, Barking. After the war Daisy nursed Sid, as a disabled ex-serviceman with Tuberculosis, for over 15 years until his death in 1961. They had two children - David and Sally. Daisy met her second husband James Allum (Jim) at the Brittania Public House in Barking, where he played in a darts team. Daisy and Jim were married at Seven Kings Registry Office on 24th March 1964. Daisy had always wanted to retire to a bungalow and finally, in 1997, Daisy and Jim left Barking and purchased a bungalow in Upminster Bridge, complete with resident grey squirrels. Unfortunatey, soon afterwards Daisy's health began to deteriorate and Jim cared for her as best he could in those twilight years. Although she wasn't always able to show it, Daisy was a caring mother, often worrying about her children. As an example, on one occasion in the 1950s, there was an extremely thick "pea-souper" fog where you could not see your hand if outstretched. Nevertheless somehow Daisy felt her way along the railings some half mile to meet her son David from junior school, calling out "is that you Dave". Daisy particularly enjoyed a number of traditional seaside caravan holidays with the family, complete with buckets and spades, amusements, and the Kursall at Southend. Also the cinema, especially musicals, including Doris Day and Frank Sinatra. Her other interests included collecting postcards, old movie books, such as Marilyn Monroe, records, especially Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, and buying and selling at collectors' fairs.
