Biography

Mary was born Mary Catherine was one of ten living children born to Jacob are named in the Southern Claims #51454. Those children are: John; Mary Catherine married Mr. James; Susan; Eliza; George S. Wenner; Silas; Charley [Charles Ferris Wenner]; Lara; Lydia; and Sallie. Mary's marriage to Arnold and James were noted as well.

Mary first married December 01, 1857 in Leesburg, Loudoun, Virginia to Jacob Arnold, son of Jacob Arnold. Jacob was born November 12, 1824 and died March 2, 1863. Mary and Jacob were parents of two known children, Thomas C. Arnold and a deceased son Arnold. Thomas was born October 22, 1858. The deceased son was born 11 NOV 1860 and died 10 FEB 1861.

Mary married second to Richard James sometime after March 2, 1863 but before 1870 as in the US 1870 Census she is suggested as the wife of Richard James. Richard James was born 23 June 1821 and died 3 April 1876 in Loudoun County, Virginia probably Lovettsville, Loudoun County, Virginia. Richard was first married to Sarah Ann Waltman. Mary and Richard were parents of Frances W. James "Fanny".

The US 1880 Census for Lovettsville Loudoun County Virginia notes Mary Catherine as a widow living with son, Thomas C. Arnold; son, Walter W. James; and daughter, Fannie W. James.

The US 1920 Census for Lovettsville, Loudoun, Virginia lists Walter W. James head, aged 44; Cora R. James, wife, aged 40; Madge G. James, daughter, aged 20; Kermit W. James, son, aged 13; Mary C. James, mother, aged 83; and Thomas C. Arnold, stepbrother, aged 61.

Mrs. Mary Catherine James died 5 Aug 1928 Lovettsville, Loudoun County, Virginia. Mary is buried in Lovettsville Union Cemetery in Lovettsville, Loudoun County, Virginia.
