Elizabeth left a will undated, but proved on 29 Jan 1508. She described herself as Dame Elizabeth Darcy, widow and requested burial at Malden, where her husband was buried. [8][9]She made bequests to and mentioned:

  • my daughter Barbe
  • my daughter Gaynsford
  • my daughter Baker
  • my brother Humphrey
  • Benyson Skynner
  • Bartholomew Reed
  • John Dawys wife that was
  • Master Selyard

Monumental Inscription

Her sepulchral inscription in the Church of All Saints, Malden, has been preserved by Weever as follows[8] :

Hie jacet Rogerus Darcy Ar. filius et heres Tho. Darcy Ar. pro corpora illustrissimi Prinoipis Henrici septimi Regis Anglie, et Elizabetha uxor ejus, filia Henrici Wentworth, militis, qui obijt ultimo die Septemb. 1508.

Here lies Roger Darcy armiger, son and heir of Thomas Darcy, knight of the body of the most illustrious Prince Henry the seventh King of England, and Elizabeth his wife, daughter of Henry Wentworth, soldier, who died last September 1508.

Research Notes

There is a possibility that this profile conflates two women. The main concern is that in her will she styles herself Dame Elizabeth Darcy rather than using the name Bouchier. This would have been a much higher status marriage than her marriage to Roger Darcy. She also describes herself as "a widow", which seems anomalous given that Sir John Bouchier did not die until 1539.

The information in her monumental inscription and will cast some doubt on Elizabeth, daughter of Henry Wentworth and wife of Roger Darcy, as being the same woman who married Thomas Wyndham and John Bouchier. I'm not sure of the best way forward with this profile. Cheers, Elizabeth.
a start would be an english translation of the inscription, I regret I failed Latin when at school

I have added a short research note - I will investigate the people named in her will and see if that offers any useful information that will help us work out what is going on! Cheers!
