Biography

Johannes Karl Werner, ab 1836 von Werner, (* 16. September 1782 in Münsingen; † 5. September 1849 in Reutlingen) war württembergischer Landtagsabgeordneter.

Kammerverwalter, Urach; Oberfinanzrat Stuttgart[1]

Johannes Werner was born the son of a shoemaker in Münsingen. He married Christine Friederike Fischer and had six children with her. These included Gustav Werner (1809–1887), who later founded the Bruderhaus in Reutlingen, and Hermann von Werner (1821–1890), who was President of the Württemberg Central Office for Agriculture.

Johannes Werner began his professional career as a forest secretary in Altensteig and a forest treasurer in Zwiefalten and Biberach. From 1817 to 1819 he was the authorized representative of Count von Sternberg-Manderscheid for the lordships of Schussenried and Weißenau. Between 1819 and 1829 he was camera administrator in Ellwangen and Urach. On August 4, 1829, he was appointed Chief Finance Councilor in the Ministry of Finance in Stuttgart. In 1833 he was appointed director of the finance chamber in Reutlingen.

From 1825 to 1831 he was a member of the second chamber of the Württemberg state parliament for the constituency of Nürtingen. In 1838 he entered the state parliament for the second time for the Münsingen constituency and held the mandate until 1848.

In 1836 Johannes von Werner received the Knight's Cross, which raised him to personal nobility (nobility), and in 1846 the commentary cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown.[2]

In April / May 1848 he ran for the Frankfurt National Assembly, although he was defeated by Friedrich Theodor Vischer.

In the spring of 1848 Johannes von Werner was a co-founder of the Fatherland Association in Reutlingen. In the same year he became chairman of the "Association for German Emigration and Colonization" in Württemberg and then also of the National Association for German Emigration.[3]
