From a letter written by Velva Zulauf Saltarelli written 1/14/2001-- My, I remember Aunt Sophie. She was really Great Aunt Sophie. She taught Hula lessons to little girls and had recitals -- held them in the garage with colored lights strung around the eves. Folding chairs for the audience. Your mom (Alberta Zulauf Flintoft) said the three of them (Alberta, Virginia, Frances Zulauf) had to recite poems and be a part of her program. I was too small to remember that. We were on the farm, or just before we moved. (I was 9) We went in our Willies car -- 1936. She wore lots of beads and flower over her ear. She was large busted --maybe 200 lbs. Al (her husband) was a skinny little man -- no hair on his head at all -- big brown eyes.
