Biography

Arnold WESCOTT Arnold was about 20 years old when his parents moved from RI to a large farm tract near Cheshire, NY. About a year later he was married and settled on a farm tract near Petersburg. His children who remained in Berlin township, spelled the family name as he did, without the middle “t”. The four sons who settled in Herkimer Co., NY, retained the original spelling.

His Will is on file in Troy, NY: Name: Arnold Westcoat Probate Date: 16 Mar 1843 Probate Place: Rensselaer, New York, Inferred Death Year: Abt 1843 Inferred Death Place: New York, - names son Oliver Westcott. ^[1]

He derived his Christian name from his Grandmother, Elizabeth Arnold Wells. He settled on a farm near Petersburg, adjacent to town Berlin, where he died. He was residing in Petersburg in 1802, in which year he acted for his brothers and sisters in settling the estate of their father by selling the homestead and farm to his youngest brother, Reuben. Married Elizabeth Smith and had 15 Children.
