Pleasant united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1866 and was licensed to preach in 1873. He joined the Kentucky Conference in 1874 and served in the Williamsburg circuit. In 1880 he was transferred to the South Kansas Conference with his first appointment at Sedgewick, Kansas. Pleas, with his wife & four children, departed by train from Cincinnati, Ohio on Wednesday evening at 7:00 and arrived in Sedgwick, Kansas at 11:00 the following Friday morning, April 16, 1880. He was pastor at the Methodist Church there (membership 108) for two years. From there they went to Canton, Kansas and remained one year. In March 1883, he was appointed pastor of the First Methodist Church in Great Bend, Kansas where Pleas served 1 1/2 years until his untimely death.
