Cornelius Johannes was born in 1894. He is the son of Wessel Johannes Albertus Wessels and Margaretha Dannhauser. He is incorrectly named as his grandmother's child, along with his siblings on RC records. He seems to have been in her care at both Standerton and Merebank RC, however records state that at an unknown date he and his siblings left 'without authority' to go to the nearby Jacobs Siding RC.
