Biography

Nancy West was born around 1825. She is believed to be the daughter of James West, born 1796, in South Carolina. James West was found in the 1830 Wayne County, Tennessee census. Around 1836, he moved with his first wife to Itawamba County, Mississippi. They had three daughters and two sons. They are listed on the 1840 Itawamba County MS census. James West's first wife died in the 1840s.

James West's second wife was Jane (Jincy) Taylor. They married around 1847 and are listed in the 1850 Itawamba County, MS census.

Nancy was listed in the home of her sister, Margaret, in the 1850 Itawamba County, MS census. Margaret married William C. Harder on September 5, 1844 in Itawamba County, MS.

Nancy's sister, Levina, married Richard Bearden on October 31, 1850 in Itawamba County, MS. On November 22, 1857, Nancy married Alfred M. Ballard in Itawamba County. Nancy's son, Pleasant Marion Ballard, was born March 12, 1860 in Itawamba County. Evidently, all three sisters were widows by 1860, when they were listed in the same household in the 1860 Itawamba Co., MS census

Nancy West Ballard's son, Pleasant Marion Ballard, married Jenora Melvina Jaggers in 1885. After they divorced, Jenora moved to Texas by 1900 with her young children, her mother Mary Jaggers, and her brothers Jesse and John.

Nancy was listed with her sisters in the 1870 Franklin Co, AL census and again in the 1880 Marion Co., AL census.
