Henry West was born about 1620, presumed in England. His parents are said by some to be Richard West and Maudlin Cooke. This is unconfirmed. He probably died during the third Anglo-Powhatan War which began on 18 April 1644 in Virginia. As many as 400 colonists were killed.[1]
Henry's wife is said to have been Sarah Unknown, married about 1640. This is unproven. All we can say is Henry was father to two sons, William West (born about 1642) and Henry West, Jr., (born about 1644).
It has not been possible to locate documentation identifying the parents of Henry West. As noted below in Research Notes, it has not even been possible to document his arrival in the Virginia Colony. Based on these facts and evidence proving that Richard West and Maudlin Cooke had only one child, daughter Joane (West) White, Henry is being removed as son. For more information on Joane West's lack of siblings, see the response to the G2G query on this subject through the link in the top right corner of the profile.
I am attempting to determine Henry's birth/death dates with more accuracy and locate the date he arrived in the Virginia Colony. One possibility appeared to be Henry West who was transported as a servant by John Robins to Elizabeth City County, Virginia on the Margarett & John in 1622.[2] Unfortunately, I found that this Henry West was killed in a massacre in 1623.[3] Several other men named Henry West arrived in Virginia in 1649 or later, too late for this Henry. Still looking for an arrival date for Henry.
Regarding his dates of birth/death: Most family trees give Henry's birth date as about 1620 in England with a marriage about 1640 and sons Henry and William born 1642 or later. This fits with the petition submitted by Henry West, Jr., on behalf of himself and brother William West following their arrest after Bacon's Rebellion:
William and Henry were arrested about 1677-1678 and 30 years prior would give a death date for Henry West of about 1647-1648 (possibly as early as 1644). This date would allow William and Henry to have been born between 1640 and 1644-1647.

"Hi, have a small problem. Joane (West) White's profile seems fairly well-documented. Did she have a brother named either John or Henry West? There is a Henry West added as her brother, son of Richard West and Maudlin Cooke, but he somehow does not seem to fit in this family.
The Henry West I am looking for was presumed born in England, came to Virginia and settled in Isle of Wight County. He had at least two sons, William and Henry. Is it possible that this Henry West https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/West-833 is incorrectly attached to Joane West's family?"
