Born on May 7, 1899, in North Creek, she was the daughter of Elmer and Anna (Corscadden) West. Mrs. Hammond was a lifelong resident of the North Creek area and a member of the Gore Baptist Church. Her first husband, Francis Scarritt, and her second husband, Theodore Hammond, both died before her. Survivors include two daughters, Vera Leavitt of Schroon Lake and Sylvia Stevens of Rensselaer; one step-son, Francis Hammond of California; one step-daughter, Glenda Mitchell of Indian Lake; one brother, Fred West of Gloversville; one sister, Marguerite Newton of Liberty, Mo.; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Federal Flats Cemetery in Olmsteadville. No calling hours are scheduled. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Schroon Lake Ambulance Fund or to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home, Schroon Lake."
