Biography

I was born in 1958 at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. I grew up on Raccoon Creek with 3 younger siblings.

In those days there were still a few 3 room schools. The closest to me was on Frozen Creek just over a mile away. Since I was over a mile from the school I was bused to Johns Creek School while my cousins a couple of houses away had to walk to school. By the time I was in the 3rd grade there was a new elementary school built next to the high school and everyone was bused there. That was the end of the country schools in my area.

I still remember riding the bus past Gene Step’s service station and seeing gasoline priced at 19¢ per gallon and diesel for 29¢ per gallon. In those days there was no kindergarten, headstart or preschool. I started in the 1st grade in 1964 and graduated in 1976.

After graduation I worked a couple of different jobs around a coal prep plant but wasn’t interested in going into the mines.

I was blessed to get hired by EQT in 1980 and worked in the Appalachian Basin Natural Gas field until I retired in 2016. I started out as what’s now called a roustabout position and was a meter technician when I retired.

In the early years the company did their own drilling and service rig work. There were some hard days but overall it was still a great job.

Also in 1980 I got my first amateur radio license. My callsign was KA4RQN and since it was a Novice Class license all I was allowed to use was Morse Code. I upgraded to Extra Class around 1982 and got K4VH as a vanity callsign. I haven’t been active in a few years but hope to eventually get back on the local repeaters.

I was married to Cathy Mullins and we amicably divorced. I’m disabled and unable to get around much, so genealogy, mobile games and Netflix are my way of life now.

I really enjoy genealogy and do my best to provide accurate information in profiles. I think we owe the deceased a measure of respect. Still, I’m human and I can and do make mistakes. If you see any errors that I’ve made feel free to correct them. I certainly won’t be offended. If I’m the profile manager on any profile that you would like to maintain, please let me know and I’ll turn it over to you. If there’s any way I can be of assistance just send me a private message and I’ll do what I can.

Hi Terry,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
