Cleveland West was born on March 2, 1885, in Wyoming County, West Virginia, United States, the son of Thomas Franklin West and his wife Sarah Matilda Layne.[1]
He married firstly Dollie Chapman (also known as Smith) on January 22, 1908, in Pike county, Kentucky.[2] They were to have five known children, three daughters, and two sons:

He married secondly Cora Goff on September 26, 1921, in Pikeville, Pike County,[3] subsequently having seven known children, three daughters, and four sons:
Cleveland West passed away on May 12, 1973, in Pikeville, Pike County, Kentucky, United States,[4] and was interred in the Johnson Memorial Cemetery, Pikeville, where his wife, Cora, would also later be laid to rest.[5]
