A.Y. West was born on July 3, 1881, at Huntsville in Scott County, Tennessee. He was the son of Reason Sevier West and Nancy ( Phillips ) West . He married Mattie Phillips on September 3, 1905 in Scott County, He passed away from abdominal carcinomatosis and primary adenocarcinoma sigmoid on May 26, 1964 at the Veterans Hospital in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.

A. Y. West, of Oneida passed away at the Veterans Hospital at Nashville following a lengthy illness. Mr. West, a Veteran of the Spanish-American War, is survived by 1 sister, Martha Acres of Oneida and 1 half brother, Clifford West of Hazard, Ky. He was a retired Army Veteran. Services were conducted from the Bethlehem Baptist Church Thursday, May 28 with Rev. Roy Blevins officiating. Interment in Litton Cemetery. West in charge of arrangements.
