From the Christian Messenger V. 9 P7, 29 May 1873: D. Wescott, Lucy - died at residence of son-in-law, Dea. W. Best, Chatham, on 19th April 1873, relict of late Gilbert Merritt, aged 84 yr. 4 mo 15 da. Daughter of Thomas and Chloe Wescott. Born Nova Scotia 4 Dec. 1786. Second oldest in family of 10. In 1810 married Gilbert Merritt who died in 1866. Family of 8 children (born in Ontario). Came to Boyham (sic), Elgin Co. in 1828. 1832 moved to Chatham Twsp. From husband's death lived with daughter in Chatham, Mrs. W. Best. Three children survive her also 51 grand children and 62 grt. grand children."
