• RootsWeb Forum - Msg from Pat Sayko - John Westgate was also my GGG Grandfather. According to PA history records, census records and court documents, John Westgate was born in RI on 3 June 1794 and moved to PA in 1816. In 1817 he married Eliza Carpenter. Eliza was born on 14 October 1797 in Harford, PA and was baptized at Harford Conregational Church on 17 April 1803. They had 8 children: Wallace (married Esther Curtis), Sylvanus (married Huldah Crandall), Elias, Robert, Tryphosa, Lydia, Alvin and Fayette. John died 2 June 1872 and is buried in Burdick Cemetery in Clifford Twp., PA. Eliza died 29 December 1880 in Clifford Twp. and is also buried in Burdick Cemetery. The census records and PA histories all show that John was born in RI (probably Tiverton), but we have found no information on his parents, siblings or exactly where he was born. It seems certain that he was descended from Robert and Sarah Westgate of Warwick, RI.
