Biography

13 Mar 1660: Named in the will of Thomas Weston his father[1].

2 Apr 1662: Copy of Court Roll: Of the Manor of Baynden of a court of Harbert Morley, of the presentment of the death of Thomas Weston seised of the said tenement called Alcocks otherwise Awcocks [Mayfield] And Admission of Richard Weston as younger son and heir. Thomas Houghton, steward.[2]

4 Aug 1662: Mentioned together with siblings Thomas, John, Abraham and Anne in the will of their uncle William Weston of Mayfield[3].

30 Jun 1719: In the Name of God Amen. I Richard Weston of Cranbrook in the County of Kent [] do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) first I commend my Soul to Heaven and hope thro the Intercession of my ever blessed Saviour it will there find Eternal Rest And my body I commit to the Earth to be directly buried a the discretion of my Executor herein after named.

And as touching and concerning the disposition of such Worldly Goods as it hath pleased God to bless me with here on Earth I give devise and dispose of the same in manner and form following (that is to say)

Imprimis I give and devise unto my Nephew Thomas Weston and his assignes for and during the Term of his natural Life All that my Mannor of Peaseridge with all its Rights Members and Appurtenances Together also will all that my Mannor House or Capital Messuage or Tenement and Farm called Peaseridge with the Barnes Stables Stalls Outhouses Edifices and Buildings Closes yards Gardens and Orchards thereto belonging. And also all the Lands Arable Meadows pasture and Woods thereto also belonging and therewith usually employed or enjoyed and now in the tenure or occupation of John Cogger or of his Assignes and Situate lying and being in the Parish of Frittenden in the said County of Kent with their and every of their Appurtenances. And from and after his decease Then I do hereby give and devise the said Mannor Messuage Lands and premises with their and every of their rights Members and Appurtenances unto Thomas Weston Eldest Son of my said Nephew Thomas Weston and heirs of his Body lawfully begotten. And for want of such issue Then I do hereby give and devise the aforesaid Mannor Messuages Lands and premises with their and every of their rights Members and appurts unto John Weston Second Son of my said Nephew Thomas Weston To have and to hold the same. Unto the said john Weston his heirs and Assignes for ever subject and lyable nevertheless to the payment of such Legacies (as I shall hereafter charge thereupon) in whose hands soever the same shall happen to come at the time of my decease according to the intent and meaning of this my Will.

Item I give and bequeath unto my Niece Ann Combs now the Wife of Thomas Combs of Cranbrooke in the said County of Kent Apothecary the Sum of one hundred and fifty pounds of good and lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto her out of my said Mannor Messuages Lands and premises with their appurtenances (in whosoever hands the same shall happen to come according to the time intent and meaning of this my Will) in such manner as is hereinafter mentioned and apprised (that is to say) the sum of fifty pounds by the year until the said sum of one hundred and fifty pounds shall be fully satisfied contented and paid the first year to come from the Day of my Decease. And in case my Niece Ann Combs shall happen to depart this natural Life before all or any of the said Sum to the true intent and meaning of this my Will. Then I do hereby give and bequeath all the said Sum of one hundred and fifty pounds (or so much thereof as shall remain unpaid unto my said niece Ann Combs) unto Elizabeth, Thomas and Mary the son and Daughters of my said Niece Ann Combs which I will and devise shall be paid unto my said Nephew Thomas Combs in manner as aforesaid out of the aforesaid Mannor Messuages Lands and Premises (in whosoever hands the same shall happen to come according to the purpose true intent and meaning of this my will) upon this Special Trust and Confidence reposed in him the said Thomas Combs the father his Executors Administrators and Assignes that he and they shall and will distribute and pay the sum (or as much thereof as shall be unpaid unto my said niece Ann Combs) unto the said Elizabeth Thomas and Mary and to and amongst the Survivors and Survivor of them at their respective Ages of one and twenty years equally share and share alike. And further my Will and Meaning is that in Case Default shall happen to be made in payment of the said Sum of one hundred and fifty pounds or of any part thereof contrary to the true intent and meaning of this my Will Then Thomas Combs and Ann Combs (and to which of them shall have the same or any part thereof unpaid unto them according to the true meaning of this my Will) To enter into and impoising said Mannor Messuage Farm and Lands called Peaseridge with the Appurtenances or into any part of parcel thereof in the name of the whole and the same with the Appurtenances peaceably and quietly to have hold and Enjoy and receive and take the Rents Issues and Profits thereof to his her and their own proper uses and behoofs until the said Sum of One Hundred and Fifty pounds and all arrears thereof and all Costs and Charges Damages and Expenses which shall be sustained or Expended for or by reason of the non-payment thereof shall be fully satisfied contented and paid (into whose hands soever the same Mannor Messuages Lands and Premises shall happen to come by the purport and true meaning of this my Will).

Item I give and Devise unto my Niece Mary Mumford the Wife of Augustine Mumford of London Merchant the sum of fifty pounds of good and lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto her within three Months after my Decease by my Executors hereinafter named out of my personal Estate.

Item give and bequeath unto my kinswoman Mary Hickmot the Wife of Leonard Hickmot of Cranbrooke aforesaid yeoman the like sum of fifty pounds of like money of Great Britain to be paid unto her also within three Months after my Decease by my said Executor hereinafter named out of my personal Estate. And if is shall happen my said kinswoman Mary Hickmot shall happen to depart this natural Life before the said Legacy shall become due and payable unto her Then I do hereby give and bequeath her said Legacy of fifty pounds unto and amongst all her Children which She shall Leave at the time of her Decease to be paid unto them by my said Executor herein after named share and share alike equally as and when they shall attain their respective ages of one and twenty years.

Item Whereas my said nephew Thomas Weston now oweth and standeth justly endebted to me the sum of forty pounds or more for Arrears of an Annuity of five pounds which was given to me in and by the last Will and Testament of Thomas Weston my late brother deceased Now I do hereby give and forgive my said Nephew Thomas Weston as well all arrears now due and oweing unto me for the said Annuity as which shall be due and oweing unto me for the same at the time of my decease.

And I do hereby Order and Appoint my Executor hereinafter named to Seale and Execute unto my kinswoman Ann Parton [Widow] a good and sufficient release and Discharge of all Debts and Sums and Summs of money whatsoever which shall be due and oweing unto me from her at the time of my Decease. And I do hereby further give and bequeath unto her the Sum of twenty Shillings of good and lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto her immediately after my Decease by my Executor hereinafter named.

I give and devise also unto my said nephew Thomas Weston and to his heirs all that my Messuage Farm and Lands called Allcocks with the Appurtenances Situate lying and being in Mayfield in the County of Sussex in the tenure or occupation of John [Swy]ford or his Assignes to have and to hold the said last mentioned Messuage Tenement or Farm and Lands with the Appurts unto my said Nephew Thomas Westonand to his heirs and assignes for ever.

Item I give and bequeath unto my Friend and Landlord Peter Coleman of Marden Gent the sum of twenty Shillings of good and lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid unto him immediately after my decease by my Executor herein after named to buy him a Ring to keep in remembrance of me. If the said Peter Coleman shall be living at the time of my decease.

Item All the rest and residue of my Goods ready money and Securities for money arrears of Rents Debts Cattle Chattels and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever I do hereby give and bequeath unto my said Nephew Thomas Weston who I make and ordain the full and Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament Desiring him well and faithfully to perform the same and to pay all my just Debts and my aforesaid Legacies according to the true intent and meaning of this my Will.

And I do hereby absolutely revoke and make void and of no Effect either in Law or Equity or otherwise howsoever All and all manner of former and other Will and Wills Deeds Gifts Grants Writings or Scripts (that may or [] any way or might or would any way (If this present Declaration had not been made) Set aside after change charge or impeach this my present Will or any the Directions Bequests and Devises therein contained by me heretofore at any time made or []. And do hereby declare this to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have to this my Will contained in four sheets of paper Set my hand and Seal to each sheet thereof this thirtieth Day of June in the fifth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland king Defender of the Faith Anno Domini One Thousand Seven hundred and Nineteen (Rich Weston) Signed Sealed published and Declared by the said Richard Weston as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request have subscribed our names as Witnesses.
