Biography

Robert Adams Weston was the ninth of eleven children born to William Weston III and Christian Grace Tucker. He graduated from South Carolina College in 1855.

During the Civil War he enlisted at Charleston as a private on 21 Nov 1863 in Company K, 4th South Carolina Calvary Regiment (The Charleston Light Dragoons). He is listed as on sick furlough 18 Jan 1864, detached with division quartermaster 11 Aug 1864, detached for light duty with brigade headquarters 16 Sep 1864, and on roll of prisoners paroled at Augusta, Georgia 22 May 1865.

Since the war had eroded his family's fortunes, Robert must have headed to Texas for better opportunities as he is listed on the 1870 census as being a farmer in San Felipe in Austin County. He married Philippa Cuny in 1877 in Texas. Not much else is known about Robert Adams Weston as he died shortly after the birth of his only child, Dixon Cuny Weston. He died of pneumonia while riding horseback checking on some property north of Houston.
