William Weston V was the son of Dr. William Weston IV and Caroline Elizabeth Woodward. He attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia for two years and graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Charleston. In 1896 he married Elizabeth Vanderhorst. They had four children.
The young couple moved to Columbia, South Carolina where he began his medical practice in 1897. In 1907 he began specializing in pediatrics. He was the first physician in South Carolina to do so. He studied in advance courses at the medical schools at Harvard, Columbia, and Johns Hopkins. He was a pioneer and internationally recognized in infant nutrition.
During World War I he served in the United States Army medical Corps. After the war, he helped found Columbia Hospital where he served as chief of the medical staff and for some years served as chairman of its board of trustees. The Nurses Home at the hospital is named in his honor.
Dr. Weston was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and is buried in the cemetery at St. John's Episcopal Church in Congaree, South Carolina. He is remembered for his exceptional career as a physician.
