Anna Jewel Weston was born on 16 October 1905 at her parents' home in Boaz, Marshall County, Alabama, USA. She was the 3rd daughter of William Perry Weston and Lelia Jones. They had recently moved from neighboring Blount County, Alabama, as her father was named President of Boaz Seminary there. It later became Snead College. Eventually, plagued by asthma and respiratory issues (not tuberculosis), her father, Rev. William Perry Weston, moved his family to the Great Plains area of Oklahoma (Red Mound, Seminole County) around 1907, when Oklahoma became a US State. Jewel as she was known, grew up in Oklahoma. [1]
On the 15 April 1910 US Census, Jewel Weston was recorded as a 4-year-old white girl, daughter of Rev. William P. Weston, 51, and his wife, Leila I. Weston, 39 years old, all of 3 them born in Alabama. They were living with 8 of Jewel's brothers and sisters on their farm, owned by Wm. P. Weston, in Red Mound Township, Seminole County, Oklahoma, United States. Rev. Weston was said to be a "Minister" and "Preaching" at a local Methodist church. The Census also recorded that he and wife Leila I. Weston had been married for 22 years. Leila I. (Jones) Weston had had 11 children; only 9 of whom were still living in April 1910.[2]
On 12 August 1923 in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, USA, at 17 years old, Jewel Weston married Norman Sidney Hilderbrand (1900-1981). [3] The couple lived in Oklahoma and had 2 children:[1]
On the 1930 US Census, Jewel A Hilderbrand was recorded as age 24, married to Norman S. Hilderbrand, 29, born in Arkansas. Their household included their 2 children: Jimmie N. Hilderbrand, 4 yrs., 4 mos.,; and Imogene Hilderbrand, age 2 yrs., 3 mos.; both were born in Oklahoma. The family was living in a rented house ($5/month) on Section 29, Twp. 11, Road 6, in Econtuchka, Seminole, Oklahoma, USA. Both Norman and Jewel Hilderbrand were "Public School Teachers". [4]
Ten years later, the April 1940 US Census recorded them as 39 (Norman) & 34 (Jewel); married with 2 children: James N., age 14; Norma Jean, 12 years old. They were now living in a rented house ($10/month) on ED 67-26 Miller Township in Township 6 Ranges 7 and 8 N of Little River and Salt Creek, Seminole County, Oklahoma, USA. They had already been living there in 1935. Norman was now the "Public School Principal" and Jewel was a "Public School Teacher". The children were both "At School". [5]
Later, in retirement, the couple moved to Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, where they lived until Norman passed away at 80 years old on 3 April 1981. He was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, USA, in Section 14. [6]
After her husband's passing, Jewell (Snow) Hilderbrand moved to her married daughter Norma Jean (Hilderbrand) Andrew's home in Anthony, Harper County, Kansas. Jean and Roger Andrews had been married on 1 May 1954. Anna Jewel (Snow) Hilderbrand passed away in Anthony, Harper, Kansas, on 24 February 2003 at 97 years old. She was buried next to her late husband at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, USA, in Section 14. [7]
