Biography

James was born in 1858 the twin of Betty Weston.. He was the son of Josephus Weston and Martha Futrell.[1] He died by drowning in 1888 in Bertie county, NC..

Freshet means an overflowing stream.[ https://www.newspapers.com/clip/7221634/windsor-ledger/?xid=637]" Lewiston Locals, Sept 22 1888", Mr Jas W Weston and a colored man named Wat Bishop were drowned in freshet last Saturday near Roxebel." "the fresnet in Roanoke River is slowly falling". The above newsprint matches family oral history. My father, James Hudson Weston, who did not know a lot about his family" said that his grandmother, Sarah E Weston "Betty" had a brother that died young. Perhaps a drowning."

He would have been a fatherless child needing to support himself.Working as day laborer. Cannot read/write. Oldest male in family, Cullen Cotton , 40.
