Philip was born in 1773, son of Hans Wetzel and Catharine Truckenmiller, who had emigrated from the Palatinate to Pennsylvania in Colonial America in 1764. Philip was a wheelwright, farmer, and member of the Reformed church. He married Elizabeth Schaub.
Philip passed away in 1863 and is buried at Saint Peters Union Church Cemetery in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
