Biography

1130 Birth and Parents

It is likely that Pharamus de Walebreu was the son Everwin De Walesbraus who granted Mawgan to Muriel (Everwin’s daughter) on her marriage to Richard De Lancelles.[1]
Pharamus was in a dispute with Muriel and Richard De Lancelles with Pharamus agreeing that Muriel and Richard had the right to the lands of Mawgan, but arguing that the advowson still belonged to him.[2] While the fine explicitly states that Muriel was the daughter of Everwin, it does not directly state Everwin’s relationship to Pharamus, so another relationship is possible.[1]
Birth Year Estimation
Since son Pharamus was born most likely before 1160, estimate Everwin's own birth say 30 years earlier, 1130. Such estimates are highly speculative and useful only for placing a person in the approximate time period.
Death date estimation
Died before 1196. The date is a very rough estimate based a suit involving his son in 1196. Basically, it must be assumed that his son Pharamus had succeeded to his lands by the time of the 1196 suit, and there for Everwin must be dead by this date.

Issue

  1. Pharamus de Walebreu was born most likely before 1160 as he already had a daughter old enough to be married when a fine was recorded 19 Oct 1196. Pharamus married Osmunda, who is of record primarily in transactions after his death in 1213 related to her dower rights. [1]
  2. Muriel married Richard de Lanselles

Research Notes

Quote from Flower's Introduction to the Curia Regis rolls: "A Cornish plea was a little more complicated than most. Richard De Lancelles and Muriel his wife claimed against Pharamus De Walesbraus the advowson of the church of Mawgan as that which Everwin De Walesbraus, Muriel's father, gave them in marriage with the town of Mawgan, whereof Pharamus was then deforcing him of a third. Pharamus said that Everwin gave the land of Mawgan and not the advowson in marriage ; and he put himself on the grand assise whether she had the greater right to the advowson by the gift in marriage of Everwin her father or he himself as his right. There was litigation between the two parties at the same time as to three acres of land in the said town, and both actions were postponed until the eyre."[3]
