Biography

Louisa Bonner "Lucy" Whatley was born on 27 Dec 1861[1] in Alexander City, Tallapoosa County, AL. She was the daughter of Jones Seaborn Whatley (1813-1898) and Sarah Hill (Porch) Whatley (1826-1899).

Unfortunately, no 1870 or 1880 US Census records have been found for the family.

Lucy married Allen David Davis (abt.1859-abt. 1918) on 9 Dec 1880 in Tallapoosa Co AL.[2] They went on to have nine children:

In the 1900 US Census[3], Lucy and Allen were living in the south part of Tallassee, Elmore Co, AL. Her birth is listed as Dec 1861 and that she had been married about 19 years. Six children are listed (SC through Ida).

The 1910 US Census[4] shows Lucy and Allen living in Langdale, Shawmut and River View, Chambers Co, AL with their six youngest children.

About 1918, her husband went to look for work in Texas. He disappeared shortly thereafter; his fate is unknown. Perhaps he succumbed to the Spanish Flu pandemic (pure speculation).

In the 1920 US Census[5], Lucy is showed as widowed. She is living in Columbus with her daughter Elsie and young son Whatley.

The 1930 US Census[6] shows "Lucy" living with her daughters Mary Elsie Davis (1889-1965) and Ida Lee Davis (1898-1961) (and their families) in Columbus, GA.

Lucy B Davis died on 12 Aug 1935 in Muscogee County, GA[7]. She was buried in Craft Cemetery in Tallapoosa County, AL.[1]
