Biography

Emery was born in 1829 in Hornby, Steuben, New York, the son of Josiah H. Wheat and Mary Black. By 1850, he was working as a carpenter and living on a farm in Whiteside, Illinois. In about 1856 at age 27, he married Julia Ann Rane of Lake Whitmore, Michigan. They settled in Dixon in Lee County, Illinois where Emory had a bar parlor??. The couple had three children, one of whom died young. Emery died at some point during the 1870s as Julia is reported as a widow in the 1880 census.
