Biography

Josiah Thomas Wheatley was born on 24 October 1833 in Sussex, England, the son of Philadelphia Ashby and John Wheatley.^[1] He emigrated to Australia with parents and siblings in August 1838 aboard the William Metcalfe.^[2]

He was married to Martha Jane Smith.^[1] Their children were:

• Walter Josiah Wheatley (1857–1922)^[1]
• Charlotte Elizabeth Wheatley (1859–1924)^[1]
• Clara Jane Wheatley (1862?–1949)^[3]
• Emmeline Bertha Wheatley (1866–1942)^[1]
• Francis Cecil Wheatley (1878–1941)^[1]

Josiah died on 18 October 1901 in Goulburn, New South Wales, at the residence of his son-in-law A. H. Line (Clara's husband).^[3][4]
