Will of Ruth Treadwell, Stratfield, Fairfield Co., CT, 19 Jan 1718/19[1][2]
Whereas I Ruth Treadwell, widow & relict of Samll Treadwell Senr late of Stratfield Decd are now by the wise and holy providence of God laid on a bed of languishing in expectation of my speedy disolution, yet of sound mind and judgement do now make this my last will and testament dispose of what God has be stowed on me in manner following
First I give and bequeath my soul unto God that gave it in hopes of acceptance for the merritts sake of his dear son and my body I commit unto ye earth to be decently buried in hopes of the furture resurrection to everlasting life in an other world_
Imprimis. I give and bequeath unto my two well beloved sons Edward Treadwell and Timothy Treadwell the whole of that third part of the meoveable estate which my sd deceased husband left and is contained in his inventory, which belonged to me, to be equally divided between my above named sons after my just debts & funeral charges are defrayed out of the same. Also I give & bequeathe all y wearing apparel both wooling and linnen unto my natural grand daughters to be divided in manner following (viz) unto the daughters of my son Saml Treadwell deceased one fifth part of my above sd apparel & linnen. also unto the daughters of my son Edward Treadwell one fifth part of my apparel and linnen abovesd, also to the daughter of my son John Treadwell decd one fifth part of my apparel and linnen abovesd. also unto the daughter of my son Ephraim Treadwell deceased one fifth part of my apparel and linnen abovesd, also unto the daughters of my son Timothy Treadwell one fifth part of my apparel and linnen as abovesd to be equally divided ammong them as abovesd_
Also I constitute and appoint my well beloved son Edward Treadwell sole executor of this my last will and testament herby revoking & declaring void and null any former will or wills, bequeaths or dispositions of all or any part of my estate abovesd_ and in confirmation of this my last will & testament I have hereunto affixed my hand in Stratfield this nineteenth day of January in the year of our lord god one thousand and seven hundred and eighteen nineteen___
