Kathryn Elizabeth Wheelock was born on July 28, 1913 in Story County, Iowa, United States, daughter of Joseph Leo Wheelock (1887–1961) and Kathryn Elizabeth Maroney (1881–1950).[1]

Notes from Suzanne Sayer Crosby: I received a copy of the "The JOSEPH L. WHEELOCK and KATHRYN E. MARONEY FAMILY HISTORY", a 7 page report, unfortunately it does not list an author (Ben thinks it maybe was Kathryn Wheelock) I was given this information on visiting Iowa, on one of our trips in 2000 or 2003. Here is the first page: John Maroney married Mary Maloney somewhere in Ireland. They had six children - four girls and two boys. They came to America in 1864. Dennis and Margaret were born in Ireland, Mary was born on the ship coming over to America. The other three -- John Jr., Hannah and Kathryn - were born in America. Kathryn Elizabeth in Hannibal, Missouri, September 3, 1881. Sometime between 1881 and 1902 the family moved to Story County, Iowa, to a farm four miles east and one-half mile north of Nevada, Iowa. (//New Paragraph//) Henry C. Wheelock was born in England in 1848 and Bridget Kane was born in Ireland in 1847. The date they came to America or where they met is unknown. They lived in Eastern and Central Iowa where most of their twelve children were born. They had five boys and seven girls. Namely, Sophia E. (Helen) 1872, Henry A., 1873, William S. 1875, Permelia K. (Kate) and Mary E. (Twins) 1877, Martin M. 1879, Lucy A. 1881, James E. 1883, John T. 1885, Joseph Leo 1887, Bernard A 1889 and Anna C. 1890. Bridget died in 1913 and Henry C. in 1925. (//New Paragraph//) Joseph Leo came to Story County, Iowa, and worked for John and Dennis Maroney. Kathryn Elizabeth was keeping house for her brothers as both parents had passed away. John in 1902 and Mary in 1905. (//New Paragraph//) Joseph Leo Wheelock and Kathryn Elizabeth Maroney were married September 30, 1908, and moved to a farm one mile north of the home farm. (//New Paragraph//) To this union five children were born: Martin Edward June3 24, 1909, Anna Belle November 21, 1910, Mary Teresa February 28, 1912, Kathryn Elizabeth Jr. July 28, 1913, Joseph Leo December 27, 1917. (//New Paragraph//) Sometime between 1913 and 1917 Joe and Kate Wheelock purchased the home farm from her brothers. They lived on the farm until April of 1942 when they moved to Nevada, Iowa, to a house at 1223 10th Street. In August of that same year they moved to 313 K Avenue and lived there until 1947 when they moved to 1305 7th Street, where they lived until they passed away. Kathryn E. died February 10th, 1950, and Joseph L. died March 7th, 1961. They are both buried in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Nevada, Iowa.
