Biography

Mary Wheelock was born January 21, 1701/2, in Mendon, Massachusetts to Benjamin and Huldah (Thayer) Wheelock.[1]

She married Ebenezer Thayer, son of Ebenezer Thayer and Martha Thomson on 9 August 1721 in Mendon, Massachusetts.[2]

Children

The following children are documented children of Mary and Ebenezer Thayer:

  1. Huldah born 2 MAR 1724[3]
  2. Mary b c. 1726[4]
  3. Abigail born 11 APR 1729[3][4]
  4. Peter born 11 NOV 1731[3][4]

The following children are only referenced in published genealogies without sources and either may not exist or may belong to different parents. Please cite sources if they are to be further incorporated into a descent line:

  1. Ebenezer born June 1720[5]
  2. Micah born 1726[5]
  3. Isaac born 11 Mar 1729[5]
  4. Lydia born 1736[5]
  5. Elizabeth[6]

Mary passed away sometime before 2 Oct 1745 when her father's will was written and she is referred to as "deceased".

Alternate account of marriage

According to the Memorial of the Thayer Name by Bezaleel Thayer, Mary married Ebenezer Thayer, son of Isaac Thayer and Mercy Rockwood on May 9, 1719. [5] Bezaleel's information has been widely repeated, but is not reliable. No record of the 1719 marriage has been found. The actual marriage record in 1721, indicates that Ebenezer was from Bellingham. As Ebenezer, son of Ebenezer and Martha Thayer had already relocated to Bellingham at the time of the marriage, it is more likely that this is the correct alignment of families, and is in sync with the information from the Thayer Families Association.

Hi:

Looking for information proving that Sarah/Mary's last name at birth is Wheelock. I believe the source is originally the Thayer Memorial book which is pretty error prone. The Thayer Family Association's more recent research lists Ebenezer's wife as Sarah (Unknown).

The Mary Wheelock that married Ebenezer Thayer, married a different Ebenezer (and has different children).

I'd like to request that Sarah's LNAB be changed to Unknown, and then note in the Bio that the Thayer memorial gives her name as Sarah Wheelock.

No objections. Go ahead and make the change.

Hi:

I've been doing some research into the marriage between Mary Wheelock and Ebenezer Thayer, and I think that Mary's husband was a different [[Thayer-3482 |Ebenezer Thayer] (son of Ebenezer Thayer and Martha Thomson]. This is the line that the [Thayer Family Association] has published. I know that it contradicts the Thayer Memorial, but that is known to be very error prone. Their marriage record indicates that he was of Bellingham, and that Thayer family had already relocated there. Let me know if you have any objections. I'd like to move Mary and finish creating profiles for the remaining children.

Hi, I've been looking at the two Wheelock's that are married (Sarah and Mary). I think that two families have been accidentally combined here. There was also an Ebenezer Thayer that married a Sarah Townsend. But some sources say they had no children. Is there evidence that the mother of Noah and Jeremiah are part of this family?
