Biography

Mary Wheelock was born January 21, 1701/2, in Mendon, Massachusetts to Benjamin and Huldah (Thayer) Wheelock.^[1]

She married Ebenezer Thayer, son of Ebenezer Thayer and Martha Thomson on 9 August 1721 in Mendon, Massachusetts.^[2]

Mary passed away sometime before 2 Oct 1745 when her father's will was written and she is referred to as "deceased".

Alternate account of marriage

According to the Memorial of the Thayer Name by Bezaleel Thayer, Mary married Ebenezer Thayer, son of Isaac Thayer and Mercy Rockwood on May 9, 1719. ^[5] Bezaleel's information has been widely repeated, but is not reliable. No record of the 1719 marriage has been found. The actual marriage record in 1721, indicates that Ebenezer was from Bellingham. As Ebenezer, son of Ebenezer and Martha Thayer had already relocated to Bellingham at the time of the marriage, it is more likely that this is the correct alignment of families, and is in sync with the information from the Thayer Families Association.
