Charles was born in 1859 to Wadsworth Wheelock and Martha Trott in Janesville, Wisconsin. He and his brothers worked at their father's china store. Charles, George, and Arthur moved to different cities to open Wheelock companies. Frank stayed in Janesville with his father.
In 1877, Charles moved to South Bend, Indiana, where he began selling fine china. In 1882, brother George joined him and they formed a partnership.
In 1885, Charles married Cora Black in Owosso, Michigan.
In 1887, Charles sold his part of the South Bend store to George and moved to Peoria, Illinois, where he opened another branch of the Wheelock Store.
In 1910, Charles passed away in Peoria.

The information reaches us that Mr. Charles E. Wheelock, son of W. G. Wheelock, of this city, who is engaged in the crockery and house furnishing business, at South Bend, Indiana, is driving work at that place. He has much increased the business of the store since taking charge of it, and gives every indication of a prosperous future. Cards are out for the marriage of Mr. Charles E. Wheelock, of this city, to Miss Cora Belle Black, of Owosso, Mich., April 8th. The ceremony takes place in Christ's Episcopal church of that place, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, followed by a reception at the residence of the young lady's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Black.

Mr. George H. Wheelock leaves tonight for New York, where he will meet his father, W. G. Wheelock, of Janesville, Wisconsin, and brothers, Charles G. Wheelock, of Peoria, Ill., and Arthur W. Wheelock, of Rockford, Ill. All are engaged in the crockery business and they go together to buy goods.

PEORIA. lll., May 25—The president and founder of the great wholesale and retail china, glass and queensware firm of C. E. Wheelock & Co, Charles E. Wheelock, who died at his home, 259 Randolph avenue, Monday at midnight, was burled to-day in Springdale cemetery. He had been ill nearly 18 months with Bright's disease. The services were held at the residence and the Interment was private.
Mr. Wheelock was one of the best known and one of the most progressive business men in this part of Illinois. He was the head of the Wheelock chain of stores, one of which is at South Bend, Ind. Harry Wheelock, manager of the South Bend branch, arrived in Peoria last night to attend his uncle's funeral. Mr. Wheelock was a pioneer in the commercial progress of Peoria and always to the fore where enterprise and money were required for the public good. He was first president of the Business Men's asociatlon and was one of the founders and one of the first board of governor of the Creve Coeur club.
Mr. Wheelock was born in Janesville, Wis., Sept. 21, 1858. His father W. G. Wheelock, was in the crockery business there and after the son graduated from the Janesville High school he went to South Bend, Ind., in 1877, where he founded a branch of the parent firm under the title of W. G. Wheelock & Son. It prospered and he sold his interest to his brother, George H. Wheelock. coming to Peoria and buying out the then well-known Miller Brothers' firm in 1880. He conducted the business under his own name for ten years, then incorporated it as C. E. Wheelock & Co. It is now one of the largest concerns in the United States. doing an importing, wholesale and retail business of vast proportions and employing 25 traveling men.
In 1885 Mr. Wheelock waa married to Miss Cora Black, who, with their two sons. Ralph, aged 24. and George, aged 22, survive. His mother is still living at the old homestead in Janesville and he has three brothers. A. W. Wheelock. of Rockford. Ill, Frank R. of Janesville, Wis. and George E, who a year ago moved here from South Bend to assume the vice-presidency and active management of the Peoria house when falling health forced his brother to relinquish a part at least of the personal supervision that had brought exceptional success.
