Benjamin Wheland was born in Pennsylvania in 1814, the son of Michael Wheland and Sarah Salome Pecht. He married Anna Marie Walker (1815-1894) on 9 February 1843. They had seven children, born between 1843 and 1860. Benjamin died in 1902. [1]

Benjamin’s son, John M. Wieland, served as a Private in Co. A 46th Regiment Illinois Infantry. [3] This unit was organized at Camp Butler in 1861, and served there until 11 February 1862, when they moved on. [4] NOTE: Private John M. Wieland died at Camp Butler on 12 November 1861.

Benjamin WIELAND, 1814-1902 (87-88), is buried at Rock Grove Cemetery, Rock Grove, Illinois with his wife, Anna Maria, 1814-1894; and three children, son, John M., 1853-1861 (18), Company A, 46th Regiment, Civil War, died at Camp Butler, Illinois; daughter, Sarah M., 1845-1866 (20-21); and daughter, Lucy C., 1852-1868 (15-16).
