Hezekiah was born in 1827 in England, the son of Jeremiah Whetstone. He married first, in 1836, to Jane Catton (or Cotton). He married second, in 1862, to Jane (Christie) Harmon. He passed away in 1913 and is buried with his wives at Fremont Township Cemetery, Mayville, Tuscola County, Michigan.
