William Whinery Senior is an NSSAR Patriot Ancestor. NSSAR Ancestor #: 317670 Rank: Private
William was born in 1751 in Newbery, York, Pennsylvania.
He married Abigail McMillan and he was a Quaker who attended the Warrington monthly meeting. [1]
In 1776, William married Abigail McMillan, a member of the Quaker Warrington Monthly Meeting. William was not a member of a Meeting, and this caused concern. The Warrington Women’s Meeting also suspected Abigail was with child at the time of the marriage. Their eldest recorded child was born in 1778. She apologized to the Meeting in 1779.[2]
In 1780, William was a private in the Second Company of the York County Militia, under Captain Henry Mathias. This was part of the Third Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Michael Smyser. This company was raised primarily from Newbury Township.[3]
