Biography

Weakly SHELBYVELLE - Ruth Katherine Weakly formally of Shelbyville, passed away on September 11, 2012 at the age of 98 in Beaufort, South Carolina. After high school Ruth attended two years at Illinois State University and two years at Eastern Illinois University, graduating in 1934 with a Ruth Weakly degree m Education. After graduation she taught elementary classes in the Lovington and Strasburg schools then moved to Shelbyville where she married, raised a family and taught 4th grade for 35 years. Ruth married Leverett Weakly on February 22, 1937 and he preceded her in death. After Leverett's passing, Ruth became the house mother for Pi Beta Phi Sorority at Millikin University for a number of years. Ruth Loved being a house mother and was honored by being inducted into their National sorority. She leaves three children, Alan Weakly (Suzanne) of Story Wyoming, Phyllis Brooks (Eioger) of Chatham, Illinois and Katherine Wilson (Ernie) of Beaufort S.C. Ruth also leaves 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Following cremation services in South Carolina a memorial service in Shelbyville Illinois is being planned.
