Biography

William Whitaker was b about 1774, the son of Mary Poteet and Abraham Isaac Whitaker.

He married Lucy Holloway on 4 Mar 1797 in Orange County, North Carolina, the bondsman being William Wood.

In William's father Abraham's will dated 10 Dec 1803, William is bequeathed 180 acres adjoining John Redmond, Cardins, Jacob Allens and John Coplas.

On 1 April 1808, three surveys were were done to make divisions of land for the sons of Abraham Whitaker, dec'd. William Whitaker received 180 acres adjacent corner to Jacob Allen; Abraham Jr received 76 1/2 acres on Burs [or Burris] Creek and Jacob Whitaker received 87 acres on the bank of Eno River adjacent to Jacob Allen's corner.

In the 1810 HIllsborough, Orange Co, NC census; William is 26-44, wife 26-44, 3 males under 10, 1 m 10-15, 2 females under 10.

In 1830 Orange County, NC census; William Whitaker is 60-70, wife 50-60, 1 m 10-15, 1 m 15-20, 1 m 20-30, 1 f 15-20, 1 f 20-30.

William Whitaker wrote a will dated 5 Feb 1832 Orange County, North Carolina and named his wife Lucy, daughters Polly Cardin, Nancy and Ann Whitaker; sons Burton and John, Thomas, Isaac, William and David. His son William was appointed executor. Witnesses were Robt Gresham and James Horn. Proven May Term 1832


Research Notes

This William Whitaker may be the son of Mary Poteet and Abraham Whitaker. William may have been b c 1774. That estimated birthdate would be more in keeping with his marriage date of 1797 and the other children. More work needed.
