Biography

The son of Benjamin Whitaker, Sr and Eunice Hine, he married Abigail D. Hulce, the daughter of Silvester Hulce and Peninah Hotchkiss, in 1836 in Deposit, Delaware Co, NY.

They had seven children: Lovina, Cordelia, Milton Daniel, Mentor Sylvester, Huldah A, Frances B and Martha Esther.

They were members of The First Baptist Church, in the Town of Deposit, Delaware Co, NY.

After the death of his beloved wife Abigail, Joseph married again to Miss Lucretia Wightman Burrows in 1854, the daughter of Peris Burrows and Deborah Marie Wightman. She was born in 1821 and died 09 May 1900, she is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Stilesville, Delaware Co, NY.

Joseph took his own life by slitting his throat with his razor.
