Ambrose was born in 1823. He was the son of William Whitaker and Rose Crossley. He was baptised on 3 August 1823 at Otley, Yorkshire. [1]
At the 1841 census he is an 18 year old agricultural Labourer living at Gay Lane, Otley, Yorkshire. [2]
He married Nancy Light on 20 July 1847 at All Saints Church, Otley, Yorkshire. [3] Their children were William Whitaker, James Whitaker, Sarah Ellen Whitaker, Charles Light Whitaker, Levi Whitaker, Arthur Whitaker, Ruth Whitaker and Derinda Whitaker.
At he time of the 1851 census he was living at Brown Yard, Westgate, Otley, Yorkshire. [4]
In 1891 Ambrose, his wife Nancy were living at 95 West Gate, Otley, Yorkshire with their son Arthur Whitaker, his wife and her children. Their daughter Derinda was also at this address. [8]
