Biography

The origins of Elizabeth, wife of John Gatchell/Getchell, are not conclusively known; she may have been Elizabeth Whitaker, daughter of William and Sarah (Emerson) Whitaker of Haverhill, Massachusetts.^[1] Elizabeth Whitaker was born 7 Apr 1698 in Haverhill.

Uncertain Death

Elizabeth's death has been reported as 10 May 1771;^[2][3] however, the date exactly matches the details inscribed on John's tombstone in Brunswick, Maine. It is perhaps possible that they died on the same day, or perhaps the dates were mixed up.
