Biography

Eliza was born in 1869 in the Utah Territory to Leander Jefferson Whitaker and Ann Eliza Mitchell. In 1889 Eliza married Enoch Jefferson Hunt and together they were the parents of six children. They lived in many different places across the western states following Enoch’s construction projects building railroads, tunnels, bridges and dams. They lived in Oakland, California for ten years while Enoch was working on building the Hetch Hetchy dam to provide water for San Francisco. There they were prominant in the social and civic circles of the city. They were also both leaders and supporters of the LDS Church where Eliza presided over the Oakland Relief Society and was president of the Red Cross chapter of the LDS Church during WWI. During this time their home was the center for soldiers and missionaries. In 1925 they moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where Enoch organized the Hunt Land and Livestock Company. They retired to Ogden in 1935. Eliza passed away in 1942 at age 73.

Notes

There are records of two marriage dates about a week apart and I have sourced both. This may reflect a civil ceremony and then a marriage and sealing that took place within the LDS Church. I have used first date of marriage as being a legally recognized marriage.
