Mary Whitaker was born in about 1832 in Colton, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of Joseph Whitaker and Jane Crosthwaite.
In 1858 she married John Naylor in Sherburn in Elmet, Yorkshire[1][2]. Mary had previously had 3 illegitimate children (at least one of whom probably had John Naylor as their father): Rhoda (b.c.1850, d.1932), Martha Jane (b.1854, d.1939) and William Naylor (b.1856, d.1896).
