Marc was the sixth of seven children and third of four sons of the late Albert Charles Whittaker (1934-2001), by his second wife, Margaret Ann Medley. He was born at Taranaki Base Hospital in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand.
Marc was named after his mother's deceased uncle (his grand-uncle), William Mark Larkin (1910-1970), later known as Liam Marc Larkin, of Wellington, who was named after his grandfather (Marc's great-great-grandfather), Mark John O'Connor (1859-1898), of Whanganui.

The White Sea medal is presumably meant to be the Baltic Medal. "A British Detached Squadron under Captain Erasmus Ommaney of the twenty-six gun sailing frigate HMS Eurydice, with the fifteen-gun Miranda and the steam corvette Brisk set off in June 1854. Miranda was originally destined for the Baltic Fleet in May 1854 but was diverted into the White Sea." -- Google the Article by Peter Duckers, see: https://www.dcmmedals.co.uk/the-destruction-of-kola-1854-hms-miranda-in-the-white-sea/
"Medley also served in the Baltic aboard the HMS Brisk". Not possible as HMS Brisk was not entitled to the Baltic nor the Crimea medals as it did not take p[art in either campaign.
Also, of note is that the Baltic Campaign was from Mar 1854 to Aug 1855 and the Crimea between Oct 1853 and Mar 1856, well before his service commenced in 1857
In addition. the Roll of Royal Naval honours and awards shows only the New Zealand medal being awarded to him for the second New Zealand War aboard HMS Iris as a Midshipman. However, when the award was made in 1869/70 he had been promoted to Lieutenant and his medal is so named and embossed with date 1860 - 1861.
Perhaps the "journalists" of the day enhanced his reputation in his obituary ?

I am struggling to find my Great Great Grandfather Patrick Winder who was from Listowell in County Kerry Ireland. Elizabeths husband is one of his children Charles James Winder who emigrated with Patrick to New Zealand. Hoping you may be able to help REgards Robyn Winder
I've proposed a merge of the two Charles James Winder Wikitree profiles (it seems yours is the younger); once merged you will be able to add his father (Patrick) and mother (Ellen née Dettick) as there are public sources available.
My interest in this family is through your great-great grandmother's family, the Duftys, a New Zealand branch of whom are cousins of mine.
I would begin adding as much information as you can source to the Wikitree profiles so others can collaborate on them.
Interestingly, an Obituary of your ancestor, available at Papers Past, NLNZ, states he "was a direct descendant of the Windermere Winders of Lake Windermere, England" perhaps a good place to start?
Best wishes with your research. Marc

Thank you for editing the marriage of my great grandparents, Dr. Christopher J. B. Johnson and Harriett Brady. Are you related to Harriett in any way? Thanks again. Caralee Johnson Arendt
My 5 x great-grandmother was Ann Arnaud née Brady; I found documentation stating our two Brady lines are related, however I have not yet found documentation confirming our connection.
I believe our common ancestors are Major Nicholas Brady and his wife, Martha Gernon. They had a son whose first name is illusive who went from Ireland to England, where his descendants flourished. I will add details to Wikitree in future. Thank you for your message.

Sorry for the 'wrong' connection between https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Attwell-253 and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Baker-20355! This was my first case of this situation: They had an illegitimate child, but was never married. This has been corrected now.

Re: Ablett and Glassborow, I suggest we do all the merges first, (slightly painful I know) then I will get Joanne to add the rest of the family, including relatives by marriage etc. Cheers Drew / Jo
As he has died, could you open this profile now?
Thanks, Vic
Thanks for the merge for Alexandra Coke, all I can say is that it escaped my attention that a profile already existed at the time of creation
