Iris Irmalee Wakeman, 77, of Warrensburg, died Saturday, December 14, 2002, at Warrensburg Manor.She was born September 4, 1925, in Spencer, Iowa, the dayghter of William Vern and Anna Rubie (Kilpatrick) Whitcomb. She married the late Warren William Wakeman on February 23, 1947, in Spencer, Iowa.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Wakeman of Fulton and Debbie Pleu of Tulsa, Oklahoma, three sons, Richard Wakeman of Lawrence, Kansas, Alan Wakeman of Osawatomie, Kansas and James Wakeman of Warrensburg, Missouri, a brother, William Whitcomb of Spencer, Iowa, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wakeman graduated from Spencer High School in 1943. She was a telegraph opeerator for more than three years for the Union Pacific Railroad during World War 11. She and her husband owned and operated Orchard Home Fruit Farm near Rantbul, Kansas, for many years until her husbands death. She had lived in Ottawa, Kansas before moving to Fulton in 1998 and later to Warrensburg.

Memorial services are at 1:30pm Thursday at the Westminister Presbyterian Church in Ottawa, Kansas with Reverend Kent Matthews officiating. Eastern Star Services were under the auspices of the Lane and Ottawa Chapters of the Eastern Star. Interment is in the Ruhamah Cemetary in in Rantoul, Kansas.
