In the 1850 United States Federal Census Josiah Whitcomb 54 born abt 1796 in Vermont, retail merchant, was head of his household in New Albion, Cattaraugus, New York, USA. Other Household Members were Ruth Whitcomb 41 born abt 1809 Massachusetts, and the children all born New York, Lydia Whitcomb 14, Francis Whitcomb 12, Burt Whitcomb 10, Culver Whitcomb 8, Wesley Whitcomb 6, Florence Whitcomb 4, and Arthur Whitcomb 2. In the 1860 United States Federal Census Josiah Whitcomb 64 born abt 1796 in Vermont, farm labourer, was head of his household in New Albion, Cattaraugus, New York. Post Office: New Albion. Other Household Members were Ruth Whitcomb 50 Massachusetts, and the children all born New York, Culver Whitcomb 19, Wesley Whitcomb 17, Florence Whitcomb 15, Florentine Whitcomb 12, and Francis D Whitcomb 22, Condition: State Prison for grand larceny.
