Biography

Mercy White was born about 1670, based on her age at death, the daughter of Peregrine and Sarah (Bassett) White probably where her parents resided, in Marshfield, Plymouth Colony.[1]

She married William Sherman on 03 February 1697 in Marshfield, Plymouth, Province of Massachusetts Bay.[2] He was the son of William and Desire (Doty) Sherman, born Marshfield on 19 April 1672.[3] He was a descendant of Pilgrim Edward Doty.[1]

Mercy Sherman died on 12 June 1739 in Marshfield aged 69 years,[4][5] and was buried there in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.[6] Her husband William died in Marshfield on 26 February 1739/40 aged 67,[7] and was also buried in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.[8]

William Sherman's will, dated 30 November 1739 and proved 07 April 1740, named two grandchildren John and Mary, the children of his daughter Thankful Polden deceased; son-in-law Adam Hall and wife Sarah; daughters Mary and Abigail Sherman.[9]

In January 1782 at court the widow Mary Phillips of Marshfield attached the land of Mary and Abigail Sherman that they had received of their father.[1]
