Biography

Birth: 1823 Death: 1895

James White - Captain - Company G, 41st. Alabama Infantry

James was born 6 March 1823 in South Carolina. On 3 April 1862, at the age of 39, he enlisted in Company G of the 41st and was elected Lieutenant and on 18 February 1864 was promoted to Capt. of the Company. In April of 1864 he was wounded during the Battles of Drury's Bluff, Dutch Gap and Hatcher's Run but recovered from his injuries. In August of 1864 he fell ill at Petersburg Va. and was sent to the hospital at Lauderdale Springs Mississippi. On February 15, 1865 he was disabled by surgeons certificate and sent home to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

After the war James served on the Board of Commissioners and in 1869 became Justice of the Peace. James died 10 January 1895 and is buried at Dunn's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery #2. The side arms that Capt. James White carried are on display at Beauvior, the Jefferson Davis Shrine, in Biloxi Mississippi.
